Brian Williams Returns To MSNBC, Gets Mocked Via #BrianWilliamsPopeStories

Don't ever change, Twitter.

Brian Williams made his return to network news on Tuesday with MSNBC's coverage of Pope Francis' visit to the U.S. Of course, Twitter welcomed him back with open arms — sort of.

The former NBC Nightly News anchor received a six-month suspension earlier this year after it was discovered that he lied about his experiences in the Iraq War. After Williams claimed that he rode in a helicopter that was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade, a veteran soldier who was there questioned his story, prompting Williams to admit he was in another helicopter 30 minutes behind.

The scandal has led some to question whether Williams might have exaggerated several other claims, including being in Berlin the day the wall fell, flying with the Navy's SEAL Team Six, which was responsible for the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, and shaking hands with St. John Paul II in 1979.

Twitter users on Tuesday couldn't help but joke about other potential claims Williams might make about his experiences with the pope, and the hashtag #BrianWilliamsPopeStories was born.

Oh, really?

Makes sense.

Don't ever change, Twitter.
