McDonald's Unveils Organic Hamburger In Germany

The latest attempt from the "modern, progressive burger company"
McDonald's

McDonald's in Germany will soon be serving an organic hamburger.

Coming to restaurants October 1, the "McB" will have a 100 per cent organic beef patty, and will feature “Lollo Bionda lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, red onion rings, Edam cheese, various sauces and a dark bread,” according to a company news release.

There will also be an alternate version — debuting October 26 — which will have Maasdam cheese, arugula, and a sunflower-seed bun.

The beef for both burgers will be sourced from Germany and Austria, according to the release.

McDonald's also released a video (in German) explaining where the meat will come from.

The company says the beef will not contain antibiotics, synthetic chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and will be sourced from cows that are raised in green pastures and eat only organically-grown, GMO-free feed.

McDonald's has struggled with re-branding itself as a "modern, progressive burger company." The company recently introduced kale salads in Canada, and vowed to switch to cage-free eggs in Canada and the U.S. over the next decade.

Despite these efforts, the company still faces declining sales and criticism over its sustainability efforts, according to Quartz.
