A former Calgarian has been added to the Interpol wanted list.
Farah Mohamed Shirdon, 22, left Alberta to fight with the Islamic State in Syria last year. The CBC aired a propaganda video of Shirdon burning his Canadian passport and threatening U.S. President Barack Obama in June.
The Toronto-born Shirdon was added to the Interpol list Tuesday, nearly two months after he was charged in absentia by the RCMP.
He is charged with leaving Canada to participate in the activity of a terrorist group, participation in the activity of a terrorist group, two counts of instructing a person to carry out activity for a terrorist group, and two counts of commission of offence for a terrorist group.
The news comes just days after a series of attacks on Paris for which ISIS has taken credit. A number of experts have suggested that the audio message released by ISIS claiming responsibility for the attacks sounds as if it may have been read by a Canadian.
John Maguire and André Poulin are other Canadians who, like Shirdon, appeared in propaganda videos for the organization. Both men were later killed in Syria.
Shirdon is a former student at SAIT, and used to work at a Calgary movie theatre.
The RCMP's Project Staccato determined that Shirdon left Canada on March 14, 2014. He was last known to be in the city of Raqqa, where ISIS headquarters is located.
Raqqa was bombed by French warplanes on Sunday.
