Hasbro Creates Furry Life-Like Cats For Elders

There are serious benefits to having a furry companion.

It might seem like the ideal gift for a child on your holiday shopping list, but this furry little cat is intended for elders.

Hasbro recently launched a collection of life-like companion cats in their Joy for All collection for $100 USD. The cats, which come in three types — creamy white, silver and an orange tabby — are all built to purr, meow and move around with their owner.

"Companion Pets respond to petting, hugging and motion, much like the cats you know and love," the site notes.

Although the cats can be bought for someone of any age, the company has released a series of videos showing seniors playing with the cats for the first time. From feelings of comfort to happiness to even relaxing, participants in the videos also said these cat helped with loneliness.

And we can't help but think of another soothing robotic toy with very similar features. Paro the therapeutic robotic seal (which was recently popularized on an episode about elders on Aziz Ansari's "Master of None") is used by patients and elders to cope with stress and even get motivated in their everyday lives.
