Two Connecticut moms who breastfeed each other’s children are encouraging others to do the same.
Stefani Tatavitto and Chrystal Klein, both 23, met via Facebook five years ago and have been best friends ever since. The two moms have a unique arrangement in that they act as a wet nurse for each other’s children while babysitting.
The arrangement began when Klein’s daughter Ariana was just 10 months old. The baby girl is now 19 months, and Tatavitto’s son Gage is two years old.
“I don’t think it’s shocking to nurse another woman’s child – breastfeeding is natural,” Tatavitto said. “You drink breast milk from animals, it’s not that weird to drink breast milk from another human.”
In the video above, the moms explain why they breastfeed each other’s kids and address the controversy around their decision.
This isn’t the first time a mom caused controversy for milk sharing or cross nursing. In August, a photo circulated of Pennsylvania mom Jessica Colletti nursing her friend’s son, as well as her own.
While some people thought the idea of double breastfeeding was beautiful, others were quick to criticize Colletti. In response, the 27-year-old mom told the Daily News that “critics are just misinformed because they wrongly sexualize” breastfeeding.
“I’m doing the best thing for my babies,” she said. “No one could tell me otherwise.”
