For Wedding Photography Planning, Pay Heed To These Photogs' Secret Thoughts

They want cloudy skies, but not for the reason you think.

For the most part, your wedding photographer will only speak up to shuffle people around and compose the bridal party photos. But the Daily Mail Australia decided to see what’s going through photographers' minds while they’re behind the shutter.

Believe it or not, they secretly hope for rain.

Photographers James Day and Nicole Ashley told the Daily Mail Australia that there’s no need for bright sunlight. In fact, it casts harsh shadows, while a rainy or overcast day offers the ideal lighting. As a matter of fact, they say rainy day wedding photos are rising in popularity.

Other people interviewed have had thoughts ranging from, “They won’t last” (yes, the couple eventually broke up) to "Please stop treating me like a servant," when the bossy mother of the bride tried to coerce them into taking pointless shots.

And, food during the reception would be nice. Running around catching every memorable shot for up to 12 hours leaves them little time to eat, apart from scarfing granola bars and energy drinks.

The Knot also has their own list of potential issues wedding photographers may have. Right near the top is "finalizing a schedule" with your photographer in the loop.

They can help you figure out how long things will take, since they’ve witnessed countless weddings. And photographer Hilary Harvey tells The Knot their input will ensure you make time for photos when the light is most flattering, like sunset.

And, of course, most photographers say, “Put your phone away.”

Last month photographer Thomas Stewart posted a 1,000 word rant to Facebook about why newlyweds should urge their guests to go unplugged for the ceremony.

It’s distracting to see a sea of mobile screens in the foreground of their pictures, according to the Daily Mail. But Stewart also shared a photo showing overzealous guests blocking the couples view of each other down the aisle, while trying to get their own shot.

Right, I've had enough. I want to talk to you all about guests using mobile phones / cameras at weddings. I want to...

But however the day goes, don’t forget to smile. One photographer remembers a bride who was so stressed out, it showed up in the photos. So, let loose and say “cheese” – after all, it should be the happiest day of your life, and your photographer thinks so too.
