Calgary police confirmed Thursday that the death of a 19-year-old girl with Down syndrome in September was a homicide.

Jessica Hagan was found dead in her home in Cranston on Sept. 8. Another female relative in her 50s was also found in medical distress and was taken to hospital.

The teen's brother Daniel later confirmed to The Canadian Press the woman was their mother, Christine.

Calgary police issued a release announcing the end to their investigation. They concluded the woman found inside the home is responsible for Hagan's death. The teen died from an "intentional administration of drugs."

The family member has since died from an existing medical condition. The case has been cleared without any charges being laid, police said.

Daniel released a statement in September that said Jessica was "the most purely loving person'' he has ever known, and that her death was a "devastating" loss for the family.

Hagan's death is the 34th homicide in 2015.
