Three weeks and thousands of dollars later, a lost dog has been reunited with his Whistler, B.C. owner.
Scout, a three-year old goldendoodle, was out with a dog-walking group on a trail between Whistler and Pemberton when he ran off Feb. 5.
His owner, Kate O'Sullivan, was on her first day of a vacation in Hawaii at the time with her mom and five-month-old son, according to CBC News. When she found out Scout had gone missing, she cut her trip short and flew back to B.C.
O'Sullivan launched an exhaustive search operation to find Scout that included a social media campaign, a local newspaper ad, bloodhounds, and a helicopter flyover. She spent $5,000 of her own money and raised more than $7,000 on a GoFundMe page.
"We tried everything, and in the end we were putting up posters and spreading the word everywhere,” she told Global News.
On Saturday night, a woman spotted the dog just south of Pemberton and reunited him with his grateful owner.
“He’s very very skinny, and his feet are raw, but I think he’ll be OK,” O'Sullivan said.
“I just want to thank everyone who was hopeful the whole time."
She told CBC News she had given up hope, even after spending $5,000 on the search.
"I felt like, okay, I have to move on, I put his dog dishes away, I put his bed away," she said.
"I can't believe he's home. I cannot believe it."
O'Sullivan said she won't be hiring dog-walkers again.
