While the origins of the first hamburger is difficult to pinpoint, this meaty sandwich has long been considered an American classic.

But Americans aren't the only ones who enjoy a nice juicy burger — countries around the world have embraced the burger by putting their own spins on it. By adding all sorts of ingredients like pink dijon sauce in France or Thai plum chutney in New Zealand, let's just say the burger is quite versatile.

While most countries stick to the classic bread and meat combination, there are vegetarian options like the vada pav, a potato burger from India and the Japanese moss burger made with rice buns, nori and sauteed soybeans.
