Loft Apartment Living: How To Tell If This Lifestyle Is Right For You

There are two things you should consider before buying a loft.

Let's get this out of the way: Lofts are cool. They're different.

In fact, if real estate was like high school, lofts would be the edgy art students everyone wanted to be.

Like the unique style that defined the art students, loft apartments and condos have a certain je ne sais quoi quality thanks to their exposed duct work, open concepts and use of vertical and horizontal living space.

But it's not a look for everyone.

Living in an open-concept home might seem like great idea, but it can often look like multiple rooms are crammed into one constricted space.

Some might also find the aesthetics of concrete ceilings and visible pipes to look like unfinished construction, or appear just plain lazy.

And then there are the privacy issues — definitely a red flag for anyone looking to rent or buy with a roommate.

Just take it from this former loft owner after he sold his old unit in Toronto's growing neighbourhood of Liberty Village in the video above.
