Tennis pro Serena Williams is used to being called "one of the greatest female athletes of all time," but that doesn't mean she likes it, or approves of it.
During Thursday's post-Wimbledon semifinal press conference, the 34-year-old athlete clarified that she prefers to be called "one of the greatest athletes of all time."
And rightfully so: Williams has been ranked number one six times by The Women's Tennis Association throughout her career, with consecutive rankings since 2013. She's also won 21 singles Grand Slams, 13 doubles Grand Slams and holds the most major singles, doubles, and mixed doubles titles combined amongst active players, male or female.
During the conference, Williams was also asked about her thoughts on male and female athletes receiving equal pay, an issue that has been debated in recent years due to the fact that women's matches tend to be shorter than men's competitions.
Once again, Williams had the perfect response, telling a reporter "yeah, I think we deserve equal prize money. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, if you happen to write a short article, you think you don't deserve equal pay as your beautiful colleague behind you?"
Preach, Serena. Preach.
