Prince Harry Gets Tested For HIV On Facebook Live

"It is amazing how quick it is."

Like his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, Prince Harry is committed to erasing the stigma that surrounds HIV and AIDS.

Prince Harry believes his generation needs to take leadership in the fight against HIV, or risk losing the gains of those who've come before

On Thursday, the 31-year-old prince took to Facebook Live to demonstrate how quick and easy it is to get tested for HIV.

After washing his hands, Harry, who admitted to being nervous, underwent a finger-prick test by psycho-sexual counsellor, Robert Palmer, at London's Burrell Street Sexual Health Centre.

After receiving his negative result and pointing out how "amazingly quick" it is, the prince posed a question to Palmer and the live audience: "So whether you're a man, woman, gay, straight, black or white — even ginger — why wouldn't you come and have a test?"

Kensington Palace also announced on Thursday that the prince will be in Durban, South Africa, for the International AIDS Conference next week, where he's scheduled to share a stage with his mother's long time friend, musician and AIDS and HIV advocate, Elton John.

According to the palace, HIV rates in the U.K. continue to rise because nearly 20 per cent of HIV patients are unaware of their diagnosis.
