In the chaos following the truck attack in Nice, France, two new parents lost their eight-month-old son.
Tiava Banner, the boy's aunt, made an impassioned plea on Facebook, calling for those in the area to keep an eye out for her nephew's safe return.
The boy's parents lost him when their stroller was swept into the mass turmoil caused when a semi-truck barreled down Nice's pedestrian-only beachside. The attack claimed the lives of children and families joining in France's Independence Day festivities.
“Friends of Nice, if you have seen him, if you were there, if you have picked him up, please contact me,” Banner wrote.
One hour after her impassioned plea, the baby boy was found alive and safe by Nice locals.
A member of the boy's family told The Guardian: “A young woman found him and took him home with her. She then went online and found the photo of the baby on Facebook.”
Banner thanks a "Joy Ruez" in an update to her original Facebook post, saying that the boy has been reunited. However, she wrote that other family members were injured in the attack and are now in hospital.
Banner's appeal to find someone missing in Nice is one of many on social media. Facebook and Twitter accounts called "SOS Nice" have been created as a hub for all search queries.
Twitter users have been circulating images of missing loved ones as well, using the hashtag #RechercheNice, or "Search Nice." So far, it's managed to locate two individuals stranded in the city: Elena Gallamini and Marco Billi.
Those who are able to provide shelter for those affected by the tragedy have also used #PorteOuverteNice, or "Open Door Nice," in order to share their homes with those in need.
