Jennifer Storrar and Troy Reddington were only dating for a few months when they buried a time capsule together. When they went back to dig it up, five years later, Storrar was in for a surprise.
The couple from Caledon, Ont. retraced their steps and kayaked across Mikisew Eagle Lake to a forest where they'd left an empty peanut butter jar full of mementos, like a song list, letters for the future and a Blackberry phone, TODAY reports.
But when Storrar, 24, pulled the jar from the dirt, it contained only a single letter. As she read its message: "Will you marry me," Reddington got down on one knee and popped the question.
The 25-year-old told CTV News that he got the idea two years ago when they were talking about the time capsule they'd buried.
In May this year, he snuck back to the same spot in the middle of the night and hid the new jar in the same spot.
Pretending that he wanted to test out a new GoPro camera he'd purchased, Reddington got Storrar to film the whole trip, TODAY reports.
Reddington posted the video to YouTube in June and it has since gone viral.
But Reddington tells CTV News they aren't in a rush to tie the knot. They hope to buy a house first, and marry in two or three years.
