Members of Calgary's culinary community are mourning after a local chef was killed in a crash.

Jonathan Sobol, 33, was identified as one of the victims of a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 9 near Irricana, Alta. on Tuesday.

Sobol was the head chef at Starbelly restaurant in south Calgary.

Beloved member of the community

He graduated from SAIT before heading to the U.K. to train at the Michelin Star-awarded The Fat Duck.

"Jonathan was deeply committed to his community using his many talents to educate and support children and youth. His tireless work with the Alberta Children’s Hospital, South Health Campus, and Haysboro School touched many lives. He was an advocate for supporting local farmers and producers, a passion that could be found both in and out of the kitchen," said Alex Fraser of Starbelly in a statement posted to Facebook.
