WestJet Gives Fort McMurray Christmas Miracle Treatment With Free Tickets

It's a Christmas Miracle!

Every holiday season WestJet finds new ways to spread Christmas cheer, and this year was no exception.

The Calgary-based airline gave back to Fort McMurray families who were impacted by May's devastating wildfires, at an event called the Snowflake Soirée on Saturday night.

As a gift to families, the company parachuted Christmas ornaments from the sky that included free airline vouchers tucked inside.

Chris Fedorchuk captured the scene on video – you can watch above – showing the sky filled with hundreds of tiny white parachutes.

"Anytime I talk about the nice things people have done since May, I cry," resident Barb Warner, who attended the party, told Global News.

"I don’t know how many people I hugged last night from WestJet, because like I told someone, they just put the 'merry' back into Christmas."

Party guests shared their glee on social media.

Snowflake Soirée attendees were also treated to free food and drinks and a concert by country music artist Johnny Reid.

"This has been an extremely difficult year for residents of Fort McMurray, and with Christmas just around the corner, we wanted to give back to a community that means so much to us," WestJet told The Huffington Post Alberta in an email. They added that there will be "special behind-the-scenes moments" shared with the public in coming weeks.

Last year, WestJest performed 12,000 "mini miracles" for people around the globe, and in 2014, the company brought snow and presents to a small community in the Dominican Republic.

In 2013, they brought gifts to 250 passengers travelling through the Calgary International Airport.
