Jacob Ohl, Georgia Teen, Calls 911 After Feet Severed By Train

His mom said he doesn't remember exactly what happened.

A teen run over by a train in Georgia called 911 himself, even though both of his feet had been severed.

Jacob Ohl was struck around 1 p.m. on Thursday in the city of Lilburn, according to Fox News. He was found lying next to tracks with his feet draped over the rail.

The 17-year-old had been walking in between the rails listening to music on his headphones and didn’t hear the train coming, his mother Fern Cook told Inside Edition.

"The next thing he knows, he was on the side of the tracks. He doesn't remember exactly what happened,” she said.

The high school senior managed to call 911.

"I think it cut them off," he told the dispatcher of his feet.

Police ran along the tracks until they found the injured teen, according to WSB-TV. Officer Andy Blimline said he didn’t expect to find Ohl conscious.

"He appeared OK and then I lifted the jacket and saw that the bottom half of his legs were no longer attached," investigator Cody Belcher told the broadcaster. He then applied tourniquets to each leg.

Ohl’s legs were amputated from the knee down, and he’s in so much pain he can barely sleep, Cook told Inside Edition.

"He appeared OK and then I lifted the jacket and saw that the bottom half of his legs were no longer attached."

But he has started physical therapy, and will soon head to rehabilitation.

“Our family is reeling from this tragedy, but at the same time, we are so happy and feel so lucky that he is alive,” Cook wrote on a GoFundMe page set up to raise money to retrofit their home and for other expenses.

"We all feel lost in the overwhelming helplessness of this crazy situation."

Much seemed to be going well for Ohl before the incident, she wrote. An A student in honours classes, he had been accepted to college this fall and had just started a job as an office assistant.

And despite what happened, the family hasn't lost their sense of humour about the situation.

His mom wrote: “Jacob loves to read books, play any instrument, listen to music (especially jazz) and eats healthy foods like pizza.”
