I woke up with a lot of anxiety this morning. I was nervous, anxious, excited and believe it or not, scared of my return to the runway in my hometown, strutting exclusively for designer and Farley Chatto. Although I've had the privilege to walk in other shows around the world, Toronto Fashion Week is always near and dear to my heart.
I arrived at the tents and was greeted by a swarm of photographers, all taking pictures and saying they can't wait to see me strut. All eyes are on me and for some reason I felt overwhelmed to 'bring it' on a grander scale. Backstage I was given the VIP treatment, having my own section for my hair to be done by the one and only Jorge, head hairstylist for Redken. While he was giving me a cool faux hawk coif, I was greeted by a lovely lady who gave me the most beautiful manicure.
After my hair and makeup was done, I had to hurry backstage to get dress -- my anxiety kicked up a notch. It was almost time and I really had to bring it! Farley was super calm as he dressed me and the other models. He had the most beautiful and eclectic group of models in his show. From Camille with the golden hair and eyes and the perfect complexion to Paul, a legendary model with white hair and beard.
Lights went up and I was hurried onto the runway. I walked out and felt all my anxiety being replaced by the biggest ego imaginable (my rule for models when walking on the runway: it's acting, so you CAN project a big ego to bring out that extra confidence). The show was flawless, Farley made an amazing return to the runway and I made sure I brought it for my hometown.
