5 Reasons It's Okay To Always Be On Your Phone

As much as people say our human interaction has become limited due to our use of phones the truth is when you're in an environment you can embrace, the human connection will take over. Our phones have helped bridge the gap in getting us where we want to be with the people we want to be with, whether it's concerts, restaurants, movies or sporting events. The human connection and experience is still the goal, it's just that phones help us accomplish this a little faster.

There's a good chance that you're reading this on your phone right now..

The explosion in technology, especially phones, has gone through the roof in the last decade and especially the last 5 years.

We've moved away from desktop computers to laptops and tablets. Our phones have gone from something you had on the wall in your kitchen to in your pocket.

Many articles and editorials encourage us to get off our phones but let me show you 5 reasons why it might not be so bad that we are always on them.

1. You're Not On A Phone You're On A Computer

That iPhone or android device you are on is a computer that happens to have a phone function, and I'd imagine that most of us use the phone function a small percentage of the time.

You have a computer in your pocket and this never ceases to amaze me. This is the future we wanted decades ago, just like something out of the Jetsons. Just carrying around this device encourages me about the progress of mankind and what we are capable of creating to enhance our lives.

2. Ignorance Never Has To Be An Option

Some get annoyed when a question is asked and the first response is "I'll Google it!". I've never seen this as a negative thing, why be ignorant about something when the answer is at your fingertips?

At this moment, with your device, you can learn everything there is to know about anything you can think of. We can better ourselves and expand our knowledge on a daily basis and this is something that should not be taken lightly.

3. Our Phones Lead Us To What We Really Want

As much as people say our human interaction has become limited due to our use of phones the truth is when you're in an environment you can embrace, the human connection will take over.

You might have your head down in group chats arranging a get together while mapping out your destination and ordering an Uber, but when you finally get together with friends the occasion trumps the technology.

Our phones have helped bridge the gap in getting us where we want to be with the people we want to be with, whether it's concerts, restaurants, movies or sporting events. The human connection and experience is still the goal, it's just that phones help us accomplish this a little faster.

4. If You Really Want To Be Present In A Situation You Will Be

We need to be honest at times and realize some situations and environments are not that stimulating and enticing. The reason people have their heads down in their phones might not be that their social interaction skills are lacking, it's that there are times when we are in lacklustre environments.

Some movies are terrible, some social situations can be mind numbing and a bus or train ride usually is monotonous. Your phone can give you a way out of that.

There's nothing wrong with admitting this. Some situations are just not ideal and your phone IS more interesting. But if you are with people that genuinely capture your interest, or that you feel a real connection with, your focus will be on that.

5. Constant Contact With People You Love

This is my main reason to embrace your phone. The reason we tend to be caught up in what's happening on our phones instead of around us is because it connects us to the people that are the real priorities in our lives.

My family and friends are all around the world and the fact I can interact with them through text, iMessage and facetime is a total gift. I'm unfortunately not able to be in the same location as many of the people that I love, but when I get the chance to connect with them, I completely embrace it and they have all my focus.

If I'm stuck in line at a DMV but am able to see live video of my new niece, well I don't have to tell you where my attention is going to be focussed on..

Wrapping It Up

I'm sure you love your phone or tablet, but it's not the actual device you love it's what it BRINGS you. It helps me find hiking routes, monitor my heart rate and track and improve my health.

I don't love my phone, I love the people I can connect with instantly, I love the music I have on it, I love funny videos I can watch and I love the pictures I can see of the people and things that I love.

The phone is just the vehicle that delivers these things to us. To me it creates more of a human connection at the end of the day. I don't know about you but that is something I want to embrace.
