Joyce Murray is the Liberal MP for Vancouver Quadra. First elected to Parliament in a by-election in 2008, Murray previously served as minister of Water, Land and Air Protection and the minister of Management Services in the B.C. Liberal government of Gordon Campbell. Before entering politics, she was a successful business woman co-founding with her husband Dirk, Brinkman and Associates Reforestation Ltd., a group of reforestation companies working around the globe. Murray was born in South Africa and immigrated with her parents in the early 1960s. She has three children.

Recently I had the pleasure of traveling from community to community in the Okanagan as a candidate for the leadership of the Liberal Party. Like everyone who visits the Okanagan, the endless swaths of dead trees left me with a sense of deep urgency to act on climate change.
