Bring your phone so that you can smartly map out where you and your date are meeting, so you can get there nice and early. If you are going to a place that doesn't take reservations, arriving well before your date will ensure you're not awkwardly huddling in the freezing doorway, waiting for a table to open up.

Ah, Valentine's Day.

Groomed? Smell good? Have a nice outfit? Ready to kiss all over town? Good for you. Love is grand. Since you're already up to speed on dating decorum and promise not to Instragram your dinner, consider grabbing a few of these goodies before you set out the door.

Having a few key items in your Valentine's arsenal can make the difference between feeling confident or suffering through some awkwardness. In fact, these four good-to-haves stack up for any date, any day of the year (though let's be honest: there's that extra bit of pressure on Valentine's Day, isn't there?).

Whether this is your first date or your 101st date, it's nice to know you've got a few key things to help your date go off without a hitch. Knowing that you've had a nasty bit of food stuck in between your teeth for an entire night doesn't feel any less embarrassing no matter who you are seated across from.

Don't leave home without

Floss

Such a tiny package brings such salvation. The one time you don't have dental floss with you is the one time that a piece of spinach will bind itself with vortex force in between your teeth.

Cash

Having bills and coins on-hand is a must for paying for parking meters, cabs that don't take cards and those hipster restaurants that only take paper. And yes, you might be fine carrying only plastic, but what if you end up in a pinch and have to ask your date to spot you a $20? Hit the ATM on your way out.

Boot Wipes

Salty shoes can ruin your otherwise perfectly planned outfit. Don't let slushy streets and sidewalks mess with your mojo. Toss these handy wipes in your purse or car to get rid of salt, slush and muck marks in a flash.

Your Phone

Bring your phone not so you can text on it all night or Instagram your dinner, duh (please don't take a photo of your dinner) Bring your phone so that you can smartly map out where you and your date are meeting, so you can get there nice and early. If you are going to a place that doesn't take reservations, arriving well before your date will ensure you're not awkwardly huddling in the freezing doorway, waiting for a table to open up.
