My earliest memories are of going with my own Mama as she taught aerobics in leotards and legwarmers. I grew up with it. I started teaching when I was 17 and have taught from that point on. I love the way the body moves and adapts to exercise. I love it so much I thoroughly educated myself: I received a Bachelor of Physical Education, a Master’s of Science and ultimately a PhD in Exercise/Occupational Physiology. I founded Hot Mama in 2012, originally to bring joy to my life but it quickly exploded. My mission is to educate women, show them how to eat healthier, workout harder (safely and effectively) and find that balance of family-life and work. I dream of creating a movement of family fitness through parental role modeling. I am a very firm believer in monkey-see monkey-do.

It seems like everything we do lately is controversial. Most recently, scales. That one piece of equipment that so many women, and some men, define their value and worth by has been in the news. Why? Because a university (*gasp) removed it from their fitness facility.

I've been doing a few interviews lately and some of the interviews are about my experience as an entrepreneur (not mompreneur... don't even get me started). One of the most common questions I'm asked is what advice would I give to someone thinking about starting their own business?

Honestly, my...

I had a terrible day yesterday. One of those days where nothing -- absolutely nothing -- goes right. I woke up late, my kids were cranky, the coffee took too long to brew, I was unfocused and my workout wore me out. All before 8 a.m.

Here's the thing: as...

Spring is in the air, and isn't that wonderful?! I love, love, love spring. Tulips, heat from the sun, kids outside playing hockey or riding bikes, and the longer, brighter, sunnier days. I love it all.

However, last week I realized that as the days were getting longer, my...

Combat Mom Bum In 20 Minutes

Mom bum. You know the bum I'm talking about, right? A little saggy, a little flat, a little wider than what it used to be. Mom bum. The fact is the body changes, often permanently, during pregnancy. With each subsequent pregnancy, it can change more and more.

Here are just...

Cleaning. It's a necessary evil. It's also one of the top excuses given when people are asked why they didn't fit a workout in. Too many chores. Vacuuming to be done. Dishes to wash. Loads of laundry to fold. The list goes on. Certainly those chores do indeed need to...

For some reason, moms are riddled with guilt. Guilt about lack of time. Guilt about the food we're putting on the table. Guilt about working outside the home. Guilt about being a stay-at-home mom. Guilt about taking 15 minutes for a cup of coffee. For me, the worst guilt comes...
