Canada-wide, the number of EI recipients increased 45,800 since last year.
The report described the situation as "a bust…without an ensuing boom."
The national increase was almost entirely driven by Alberta.
EI claims rose 29.4 per cent in the province from January. That compared with a national increase of 6.7 per cent.
