The underlying sentiment is that our dog is going to die anyway so why not relieve ourselves of the discomfort and inconvenience. I have worked with animals and people for decades -- it is both my passion and my career -- so I was caught off-guard when I felt that subtle pressure from mainstream society to put my dog down and move on with life.

Why Internships Should Be Illegal

J.J. McCullough

2012-04-27-mediabitesreal.jpgShould unpaid internships be illegal? Well, some time ago I recall society came to an agreement that unpaid labor was not something we were interested in, and I think it's not unreasonable to stick with that conclusion barring any persuasive new arguments to the contrary. CEO cries that they can't "afford" to pay even minimum wage to full-time employees helping run their businesses don't meet that criteria. Such logic merely puts internships in the dubious company of tipping  --  a backdoor way to subsidize a flawed business model by inventing a social convention to make it someone else's problem.

The Worst Thing About the Rwanda Genocide Is That It Was Preventable

Irwin Cotler | Posted 06.07.2014 | Canada Politics
Irwin Cotler

An enduring lesson from the Rwandan genocide -- not unlike the Holocaust -- is that it occurred not only because of the machinery of death, but because of state-sanctioned incitement to hate and genocide. Indeed, as the Supreme Court of Canada recognized, and as echoed by the International Criminal Tribunals for Rwanda, the Holocaust did not begin in the gas chambers -- it began with words. As the jurisprudence of the Rwandan tribunals demonstrates, these acts of genocide were preceded by -- and anchored in -- the state-orchestrated demonization and dehumanization of the minority Tutsi populations.

If a person is suffering from something that you don't understand, it doesn't mean that their suffering is invalid. A person can't judge the anxieties of another person based on the scope of their own experience. Each human being is an individual, so take the time to inform yourself.
