We are living in a world that is nearly a degree warmer than the average over the past 100 years. The realities of a one-degree world are harsh. Canada has taken a global position to ensure that emissions grow far and above the climate limit, a limit that they were a part of setting in 2009. So what is going to be our climate legacy?
Here at COP17 the world's biggest emitters, being led by the United States, are telling the rest of the world that right now is the time to wait. And yet we are standing upon a continent literally being cooked by climate change.
Santa won't be delighted to hear that Canada plans to pull out of the Kyoto Protocol just before Christmas (the North Pole may soon be ice-free in the summer) but it's the real people who live on this continent and know the reality of climate change for whom the Canadian flag has been sullied.
