South America's smallest capital packs a lot of adventure within its modest borders. From architectural wonders and world-class art galleries to charming backstreets and picturesque hiking trails; from scientific marvels to religious sanctuaries, Quito has something for all types of travellers.
Many of the children our teams meet want little more than to just 'be kids' for a few hours. Our staff provide activities, like the chance to draw or play with toys, or an opportunity to join a game or some singing. For the children who are ready and interested, we offer help in keeping up with schoolwork.

I've always been aware that these habits probably get on the nerves of anyone who has been on a trip with me, but the hard-copy memories are always worth it. When I heard about Photographers Without Borders -- an opportunity to travel with other photographers while using our talents for good -- I knew this was something I had to pursue.
Aside from our time in the Amazon, Ecuador proved not to be nearly as warm as its name suggests. Kelly said several times that she thought the country's being on the equator guaranteed hot weather. How wrong that proved to be.
There was much debate about which way to go leaving the Amazon. Completing the loop and returning to Quito via some hot springs was the initial plan.

There was a twisty stick in the middle of my lane. It was after sunset and I couldn't see well, but as I passed the stick I realised it was alive! Tom was riding behind me, and the stick, not happy with my passing so close, reared up and went for Tom's leg.

I crossed the equator on the 17th of October, 2013, nearly 15 months after we left Vancouver. I don't have a picture of this momentous occasion, because there wasn't even a sign. Apparently if one wants to take a picture of the monument on the equator, one needs to take a different route.
