Thanksgiving may have come and gone, but we have a lot to be thankful for as Canadians right now. And what better way to embrace our feelings of National pride than by digging in to some delicious dishes that feature some of our country's favourite foods. From our love of bacon and sweet maple syrup, to gooey butter tarts and spicy caesars -- these truly Canadian recipes are a tasty way to celebrate our love for this great country we live in.
There are not enough people willing to be a voice for the voiceless. Hate has been simmering just beneath the surface, lurking in the shadows, and we have been content to sit on the sidelines, hoping others will fix it for us.... We've blessed bigots with our patience. Hate is learned and fear is contagious. We teach each other to be afraid of anything different from ourselves.
Somewhere in the past 20 years or so, Americans started repeating a false narrative. The myth was about there always being "two sides to every story" and that -- because of that belief -- the media was responsible for always showing both sides. But that's simply not the case. By making mindless arguing over every single issue the norm, cable news has convinced a misinformed public that the facts are whatever is said by the person who screams the loudest.
We shrugged as the media pumped Donald Trump into our homes 24/7. We could have demanded the same coverage for Bernie Sanders, but instead we guffawed at the spectacle. We aided the media's manipulation through apathy, and now we are feigning surprise that it has come down to these two horribly flawed people. Like the war in Iraq, we just swallowed the content and acted like the coverage was simply a reflection of the reality. It wasn't. It was an invention from the start.
Here's a thought, Bernie. You could decide you're forming a new party: The Progressive Party, say. Millions of donations would carry you, millions of independents would cheer and vote for you. Progressives would run for Congress. The U.S. political culture would finally gain a progressive flag to wave -- for a long time into the future.
Building progress and trust, as the U.S. did, takes a long time to accomplish far more than constructing a building. But Trump will help destroy such progress if he is elected as the president of the United States. All the respect and admiration the world used to have towards this great country will vanish into thin air.
