Growing up, my parents had never imposed their cultures on me -- my cultural identity had always felt like a decision between Canadian, Trinidadian and British. It wasn't until I had recently retired my soccer cleats when I'd realized I had never had to make the choice, that I could be all three.

Canada is a wonderful, unique country. Those are some intense feelings to deal with in one package. Saying that, in my opinion -- as someone who has moved abroad twice, to Australia and Canada -- it's one of the most fulfilling, worthwhile, life-changing experiences out there.
When I tell people about picking up my life and moving abroad permanently I am often greeted with a similar response: something along the lines of "you're so brave" or "I could never do that."
