Everyone has a kitchen secret or two. There's the aunt who won't share her meatball recipe for fear that someone will make it better than her. There's the grandmother who gives her apple pie recipe but omits the apples. Then, there's the friend who makes it all look so effortless, masterfully balancing it all while putting out a jaw-dropping spread. Well get ready, because we're sharing our secrets.

Summer brings fresh, simple and bright meals to the table. But summer guests come with all sorts of dietary requests so you have to learn to cook flexitarian. In one day I had to serve: a vegan, a Paleo, a peanut allergy, a gluten free, a diabetic and a seafood averse.

I love to host dinner parties, but I really don't like doing all the work. My husband is this huge foodie. I make a gourmet meal almost every day. To be honest, I like to eat well, and he does do his fair share of the cooking, but after a while, I'm over it! (Especially when he NEVER does the dishes, even when he cooks.)

I can't get enough of this shrimp stack. Isn't it pretty?! It really makes you look like you've got some impressive kitchen skills but really couldn't be any easier. It's a perfect dish for entertaining but could also easily fit in to your weeknight meal rotation.

There is so much hype about the holidays. Unfortunately, our romantic notions are too often dashed and replaced with resentment, exhaustion and financial stress. But it doesn't have to be that way. With a bit of compromise, perspective and goodwill, you can survive and even thrive as a dynamic duo.

Don't feel badly. Especially if you're a new vegan, you may feel terrible for "imposing" on your host, or intimidated by the looks you're being given by others. Stay firm with your beliefs and don't let anyone make you question the legitimacy of your position.
As a veteran potluck dessert-bringer, I've learned that squares are your most reliable companions. They're the archetype of the ideal sweet to bring to a party. Meanwhile, cheesecakes, cakes, cupcakes -- all gleefully dainty -- but so spectacularly fussy.

A great spring dish is grilled asparagus salad with morels. Early spring will give you a quick crop of things like baby lettuce, asparagus and strawberries. Wild mushrooms also come into play -- as soon as we get the warm rains in April, you'll find morels popping up in the woods, followed closely by chanterelles.

My love affair with Cava continues. Pale lemon green with lots of tiny persistent bubbles. The nose is clean and offers green apple, lemon, lemon zest, biscuit, pear. The palate is dry with lively acidity and noted baked bread. The length is medium on a crisp palate cleansing finish. Not overly complex but good quality and the price is right!

Fall is also the time when southern hemisphere wineries release their current vintage. For example, crisp, vibrant whites from the 2014 vintage in New Zealand are already hitting shelves. These wines pair easily with a variety of fall dishes and are best enjoyed young to keep their fresh acidity, crispness, and fruit forward nature.
I'd say we've all more than earned the right to park ourselves on a patio, soak up the sunshine and sip that chilled Chardonnay. But, just because there's now a far more appealing after-work option than going the gym, doesn't mean our fitness has to suffer! Here's everything you need to know about minimizing your time in the gym so you can maximize your time on the patio.

Phil said, "We called a motel and the man there said they were full, and so was ever'body else. We don't want to be any fuss, but your daddy said that if we ran into trouble, you might put us up for a night." "Or two," said Eustacia.
We basically become shut ins due to the cold and general all around grossness of winter weather. Then a holiday party forces us out and we become like crazed animals who have not seen food or booze in years. This is a deadly combination that is sure to end in a hazing of any and all holiday buffets.
