Vancouver Election Has Bigger Issues Than Bike Lanes

I felt compelled to see these protestors in person. A younger, more angsty self would have wanted to mock and troll them, literally ride circles around them and ring my bell. But I'm older and more chill now, and really I just wanted to see if they were real, if their hearts were in it or if they were just NPA hacks, and if they were as homogeneously old, white, and wealthy as they appeared in pictures.

How We Help Vancouver's Mentally Ill During The Holidays

As the holiday season approaches, many will enjoy the festivities with family and friends but other people in Vancouver will be hurting. Those living with mental illness can find this time of year challenging and our clients at The Kettle Society often find the holidays to be the loneliest time of year. Most services are closed on December 25th, but we stay open. Everyone feels accepted and at home here. On Christmas Day we host a turkey lunch with all the trimmings, table cloths and décor. Depending on public donations, we give out small gifts like gloves, socks and boxes of chocolates. We want everyone to feel valued.

InSite is a success and should be copied nationwide for the benefit of humanity. Tangential links to declining overdose rates are swallowed whole. Thomas Kerr's claims of reduced "public disorder" in the neighbourhood go unchallenged, despite other mitigating factors such as police activity and community initiative. Journalists note Onsite, the so-called "treatment program" above the injection site, ignoring Onsite's reputation among neighbourhood residents as a spit-shined flophouse of momentary sobriety.
