If you're like me, Canada's debate around Islamophobia has left you drained and disillusioned. Both the Liberals and Conservatives treated this important social issue as if it were political football, seeking to gain cheap yardage with seemingly little concern for the lives involved. Muslim Canadians deserve better.

Canada has sent a powerful message that reverberates across all factions: Canada stands with Muslims. This is what M-103 accomplishes. And this is the kind of religious tolerance and inclusiveness that make Canada a model for diversity around the world.
Day after day and incident after incident, it has become a necessity that all systematic, racial and religious discrimination, including Islamophobia, must be studied thoroughly to come up with policies that will cure these social diseases once and for all.
We may never know what drove the attackers to murder six people praying in their Quebec City mosque this past weekend. However, we can be certain that fear-mongering language from our politicians can only be dangerous and counter-productive to a healthy and unified Canadian society.

The responsibility of tackling, addressing and finding drastic solutions for violent radicalism is a duty that should be spread over the shoulder of the society's stakeholders as well as decision-makers, community, media, "religious" groups, social experts, families and others.
Three young adults were killed in the Chapel Hill Shooting in North Carolina, 23-year-old Deah Shaddy Barakat, his wife, Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, 21, and her sister, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19. Two of them were a married couple that had only been married six weeks. Unfortunately there is a shortage of information on North American media outlets. To all politicians who have voiced a concern for the safety of Muslims, who have specified that the ongoing war on terror is not against the overwhelming majority of law abiding Muslims in our society, let us hear you speak. Let us hear you denounce this hate crime, you can start by calling it what it is.
