America's day of fiscal reckoning has been postponed because of the rise of the Tea Party anti-state movement. Fiscal "cliff" is the wrong metaphor. What's about to happen is not the end of the world, as falling off a cliff would imply. A better metaphor is America is about to head into a "fiscal cold shower."

By now everyone knows that Mitt Romney's new friend, Paul Ryan, is a climate denier, so the environmental community is going nuts. But I think they are out of sync. Paul Ryan is going to be their best friend -- whether he knows it or not. Maybe mine, too. I'm an investor in "clean" energy, as in anything that works to provide energy (or use energy) that reduces the impact of too much carbon.

This week an all-out war has been declared on environmentalists -- from Suzuki's foundation coming under attack to a viral American video opposing green energy. What is most maddening is that the new anti-environmentalist approach has become a war on actual fact, being interpreted by audiences as simply a war of conflicting opinion.
