Mark Carney is that rarest of species -- a superstar central bank governor. As the man running the Bank of Canada during the financial crisis that began in 2008, Carney is credited with helping Canada sail through the crisis better than just about any other developed country. His superstar status was recently affirmed when the U.K. poached him to be the first non-native Bank of England governor in history. But a number of recent controversies now haunt him, including his proposal to change central bank policy to target GDP growth instead of inflation, and reports that he may have hobnobbed with the Liberal Party leadership, potentially exposing the BoC to conflict of interest allegations.
