Did they finally realize what I've been telling them all along: that they are brothers and brothers have to get along? Did they just want to make me happy and realize getting along would be the only way to accomplish this all-important task? Do they see my siblings, friends, parents and our family doing kind things for one another? Have they seen their dad and I do kind things for each other despite our divorce? Despite being a single mom, they are seeing a lot of love from a lot of sources and it makes me so grateful and proud.

You have probably noticed the Mother's Day advertisements plastered on every available sign and window-front for the last month. However, these ads can provoke a painful reaction in some women and couples, which is one important reason why International Bereaved Mother's Day is so important.
I want you to know that you are not alone. Through your grief and pain and loss you have joined the club that no one wants to be a part of. But the most astonishing thing is that this club is made up of some of the most powerful, compassionate, and inspiring women.

My daughter once said to me, "even if you were not my mom, you would still be my role model." Beyond a doubt, this was the best compliment I could ever receive. Throughout my life, I have been asked many times if I personally have a role model. My answer to this is simple: my mother.

These are the moms who have outlived their children. They are mothers without official titles and have concocted clever ways to answer, "how many children do you have?" when asked by well meaning folk. These mothers cling to old memories, photo albums and painful frequent visits to cemeteries.

As Mother's Day approaches, I've been thinking about the role my mom has played in my life. So when I stumbled across a photo of a little boy in Northern Armenia with a toy sewing machine, it took me straight back to sitting at the kitchen table with my own model, as my mother carefully pieced together a fabric masterpiece.

As Mother's Day approaches, Canadians will be celebrating the people who brought us into this world and nurtured us as we developed. Most of the adulation will be due to social graces, such as care, kindness, and those life lessons that always come in handy. But there are other reasons -- specifically molecular -- making Mom a baby's best ally.

Involving children in meal preparation provides a wonderful opportunity for them to discover new foods and teaches them to become more self-reliant in the kitchen. Getting kids in the kitchen can also help with many important life skills, like reading (the recipes), enhancing math skills through measuring out ingredients or increasing/decreasing the number of servings in a recipe, and even basic science by learning about how ingredients like salt, baking powder and flour work together.

We all have stories of moms who've gone to extraordinary lengths to provide for and protect their children. But we all need a little help sometimes, and often, the most courageous thing many of us can do is ask for it. This Mother's Day, World Vision is asking you to consider helping a mother in need. She might be your next-door-neighbor, or a woman on the other side of the world.

Mother's Day is this Sunday. In amongst all the details of working, living, and being a mother myself, I'm determined to take time to think about what my mother would really like this year. Thinking about my mother's interests -- and about the memories we share together -- has given me a lot of inspiration for this Mother's Day.
It might be more work, but you know she'll appreciate it.

"My kids were fully cared for. There was no danger to them. I did the right thing, but I got screwed."
On Mother's Day, I look at my kids and think how blessed I am. Not just because I've had a chance to raise them, with all of the love, pride and fun that brings to my life. But because doing so has been a joyful experience. I've been able to nourish them, keep them warm, and send them off to school in the morning.
Recognition of mothers shouldn't end with fancy speeches or photo ops in front of tulip-decorated monuments. It needs to be expressed with lasting and meaningful actions -- like putting women's rights at the heart of national and international policy-making, like making sure women's voices are heard in public discourse and by advancing gender justice and women's empowerment with our aid dollars.

There are so many beautiful women in Hollywood, but some of the most stunning are celebrity moms who prove that age can do wonders! Not only have these famous women managed to balance work and family...
I've taken it upon myself to shamelessly type cast 10 different mom-personalities and came up with a helpful list you last minute mother's day shoppers might find useful... if you have a mother who falls under one of these categories, of course.
