If you are sitting and having lunch with coworkers you most certainly have the right to your opinion and the right to free speech; but should you use that "audience" to tell them your feelings on what your boss did this week, the company's policies, or why they should go to church on Sunday? Do they have the ability to "turn off" the conversation if they want to?
In no way would I suggest that the struggle transgender people face isn't real. But let's face it. She was living as a man, not a woman, until six months ago. A woman in hiding as a man, perhaps, but as far as the universe is concerned, she was a he, and treated with all the benefits that come along with being a rich white man for the better part of 65 years.
There are a range of reasons people have asked me about my background and reasons I'm curious about yours. Maybe I've traveled to your country of heritage and would like to share my experience; I'd like to visit one day and would welcome your insights. We shouldn't have to pretend not to see skin colour, hear accents, or recognize features. No, we're not all the same -- but why is that the goal?
Have you ever gotten into an argument and found yourself overwhelmed by the insane amount of disagreements with your seemingly logical point of view? Are we not living in a digital age? For some strange reason, educational facilities, specifically elementary schools, seem to be stubbornly entrenched in a previous era. What is behind this desire to hold on to a communications method that is clearly flawed, to say the least?
Whether evil exists is open to debate but, in a design context, it's certainly prevalent. And it's a determined force -- each time we arrange an exorcism by paintbrush, dodgy decor returns in another guise, in another room, in another house.
Let's stop pretending that we're so offended by our All-Stars cheating over an entire career and over an entire life. Steroids are to sports what sex is to the White House. The MLB is the biggest cheater in baseball. They're just better at hiding the syringes.
Why can't real women be beautiful too? How does the work of a magnificent photographer and beauty team who spent hours, maybe days on this shoot, earn the respect it deserves when Photoshop left its unruly mark all over the image? Why is Taylor Swift not allowed to have pores? Or human skin? Look at it again. Really, Glamour? Really?
For whatever, reason, Canadians and hockey fans have tended to direct their glare at the players. They misguidedly view their occasional idiocy and always-present lack of financial knowledge with blame.
With all due respect to Canadians, our values of socialism and unity are flawed. At least, in this case.
When it comes to blogging, we're still insecure. With over a decade of blogging under our global belts, it's still a new and developing form of communications and media that has yet to fully mature and find it's permanent place in the media landscape. But it could help your company a lot.
Game one is done. The beer was flying, you can bet, while Main and Portage was rocking like Granville Street during the 2010 Olympic gold medal game. For one day, Winnipeg was the center of the univer...
