It is hard to not be inspired when the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that "to those fleeing persecution, terror and war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength." It is time for Canada to lead by example yet again.

Currently, the public education system in Ontario seems more focused on looking good to the public than actually being the best it can be for the children. Ontario should look to Finland. They are now doing something right, but they weren't always #1 in education. In the 1970s they made a conscious systemic decision to focus on learning rather than performance.
I believe that if institutions create greater educational and economic opportunities for women, we would immediately begin to see the positive impact on society. In my opinion, the Italian Government should highlight the capabilities of girls by creating more opportunities for dialogue to influence policies that benefit women and girls.

My daughter is a hockey player; a student, a little sister, a big sister, a baker, a daycare assistant, a best friend, an artist, a snowboarder, and recently a member of a leadership group at her high school. She's not unusual; she's like many women and girls. We are more than just one thing.
Born into a progressive Indian family, I was encouraged to have a career and be independent. I grew up with great opportunities to learn about myself, travel and have a wholesome childhood and now adulthood. Millions of Indian girls do not have this opportunity and there is discrimination at multiple stages.

Luck is a word that very often is used with a negative connotation. "Oh, she's so lucky she had the chance to..." or, "He's so lucky he was at the right place at the right time." Jealousy comes to mind quite often when I hear the word "luck" used. Luck as it relates to business is something I think can be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The story beneath these statistics and trends is even more worrisome. United Way surveyed almost 3,000 people in our city to ask how they feel about their current situation and prospects for the future. We found that 86 per cent of people say the gap between rich and poor is too big -- a consistent sentiment regardless of income, age, education, or background.
In business the more you give the more you get. Giving customers more than what they expect, supporting your local community and actually solving problems for people will automatically yield you rewards.
True opportunity lies where there is no opportunity. It's the macro version of the stock market adage "Buy low, sell high," or golden age baseball star Willie Keeler's advice for success: "Hit 'em where they ain't."
As schools start to fill up this fall, let us not forget about all the young women and girls who will not be sitting in a classroom of their own. Especially those girls who are denied education, forced into marriage at an early age, or simply deprived of educational resources.
