Any socially transformative movement gets to a point where it needs to be fully embraced by the people it impacts. The green power movement within Canada is at just such a point. The past decade has seen an increase in the number of options available to Canadians to support renewable energy -- often associated with a premium cost to the consumer.
The mass slaughter of wildlife isn't the only thing unsustainable about the fur industry. Eighty percent of Canada's fur comes from factory farming, one of the most resource intensive and polluting industries on the planet. Yet the Fur Council of Canada's "Fur is Green" campaign remains largely unchallenged.
One of the hottest topics today for business and consumers is environmental sustainability...but what does that really mean? For a time, green arrows and leaf logos were the signal to customers that they were getting a sustainable product. But it wasn't long before customers got more sophisticated and began to recognize that "green" logos alone do not guarantee an environmentally sound, responsible and sustainable global sourcing model.
