When do you decide you're under too much stress? When do you call in sick and take a mental health day? When do you put you at the top of your to-do list? Not often enough, I say - and when we do, it's usually because our body has given us no choice in the matter.
Twelve years ago my twins were diagnosed with severe autism and I have lived in a constant state of alertness ever since. Therapists liken it to what a soldier experiences in combat. I have to admit that I can relate to the 24/7 heightened alert that never allows your mind or body to rest.

While law societies and bar associations across the country address the issue though awareness, education, and workshops, comparatively little has been done to examine and address how the current structure of legal services can contribute to burnout. Could we innovate less stressful careers?
