I decided it was time to take action. I started seeing a counselour and began the difficult task of dealing with the beliefs and feelings I had built up as a result of the bullying. My counselour helped me identify links between the trauma I had endured and the choices I had made as an adult. Learning about these patterns blew my mind.
Erin Farkas is a smart, articulate young woman who's been through depression's grinder. She wants to help other young people fighting depression, anxiety or suicidal thoughts. In 2014, Erin posted a YouTube video talking about her struggles with anxiety, depression, self-harm and bullying.
I will never forget how excited I was to be invited to watch a movie with the popular boy I liked. I primped for hours. (I was, after all, a teenager grappling with my own new sexuality.)
