Mr. Obama, Put Up That Wall!

Posted: 10/03/11 05:51 PM ET

This may not come as a big surprise to most, but it seems our American cousins don't have a lot of faith in us when it comes to security matters.

So little faith, in fact, they're now considering throwing up some fencing on the 49th to stop the hoards of terrorists that flow in daily from the Great White North.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency are looking at a number of ways to beef up security and "The Fence" is just one of the options. Apparently, public input is more than welcome.

Many Canucks, I'm sure, would take offence to a fence, but not I. What the Yanks do on their side of the border is their business. For all I care, they can build a wall coast to coast as long as their taxpayers are footin' the bill... not one penny from OUR coffers.

What would this fence look like? There's little detail in that regard, but we're told it would blend in with the environment, "complement the natural landscape." Nice.

But would the "Great Wall of America" be effective? While it might make Americans feel more secure, would it actually foil a dedicated terrorist bent on destruction? Obviously, the answer is, no.

Despite what many American still believe, the 9/11 al Qaeda gang flew into the States from outside North America... they DID NOT cross from Canada. In July 2004, the report from the 9/11 Commission was clear on this fact, yet over the years a number of prominent U.S. officials continued to blame Canada.

Among the finger pointers were U.S. Senator, John McCain, Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano and U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton! They were either frightenly unaware, or playing politics... reassuring their people they'd found the "leak."

But anyway, if the U.S. truly believes, like Frost's stubborn neighbour, that "good fences make for good neighbours," then I say, go for it!

Mr. Obama... put up that wall!

I'm gIad the politicians put alot of thought into this idea. I'm guessing the wildlife better hurry up and choose which side of the fence they'll be living on.Though, I think it might be a better idea to just wall in the fear mongering bureaucrats on both sides of the border.

If it would keep out their bad ideas and stupid movies and mindless tv - I say build it.

I'm sure they will leave a hole in the fence big enough for the pipeline. No worries.

The wall will come to symbolize the divergence of the Canadian and American interests. We once had the world's longest undefended border. But no longer... I guess the brothership we have with the USA will be the next to go.

Time to stop giving them our oil and water and make them bid for it with the rest of the world.

Overhead when our college put up a fence around the entire campus:

"Is that fence to keep us out, or to keep you in?"

Because the wall between Mexico and the States has been such a resounding success.

I really don't care if they put up a fence, as long as I don't have to pay for it. I visit the US less today than I did ten years ago. Their paranoya is just one of the reasons why. A fence won't make me go any less, and maybe it will help stop the flow of their illegal firearms into Canada.

I think we should put up the wall as well, and in fact, we should also wall off all the oil pipelines heading south. Some enterprising terrorist might crawl down one of those pipelines when it is undergoing maintenance.

Yes, to be truly safe, The U.S. should not take our oil, or any of our goods, or trade any goods with any of the planet. They should isolate themselves from the rest of the planet completely, never allowing anyone in or out.

Of course, that also means their military withdraws from the rest of the world, and they withdraw all financial and military aid to countries, including Israel, and we would NEVER hear from the u.s. again.

Yes, that is the only true way they can be safe. The fact that the rest of the planet just got safer and nicer by a factor of 10 is just a side effect, not a desired state.

Even Osama Bin Laden himself admitted that repeating 9-11 would be "very difficult" (I'd say impossible) and yet Americans have been spending billions a year for ten years in this insane xenophobia. Even we Canadians scare them.

There is some comfort in a fence. It says, you can go so far but no further. There is some safety in a fence. It says, the world is a dangerous place and we are keeping it out. There is some definition in a fence. It says, there are limits in life and you have just met one. There is some spirituality in a fence. It says, a god may be too busy to protect you but I have your back. There is some nature in a fence. It says, plant your clematis and sweet peas at my feet and watch them reach for the sky.

Truly, it is a construct of man like none other and marks like petrography our voyage in life. Generations future will marvel if future generations exist beyond the birds that fly over or the creepy crawling things that climb beneath. Build on, oh mighty nation, and revel in your industry.

There is a depression going on and rich friends of the US Government Officials can no longer maintain their yachts. This is a perfect plan to give them a crack at lucrative contracts at the expense of others, hopefully just the US tax payers. Just like Star Wars was. A few other projects of this ilk:-
-Homeland security
-Afghan war
-Iraq war
-Wall Street bail out
-etc.

President Obama put up that wall and the sooner the better. I'm afraid some of your inmates are thinking of escaping from America, the biggest insane asylum in the world. This is definitely a good way of stopping them.

I would agree if it meant it would keep the likes of baby Bush, Cheney and Ann Coulter from coming into our country

Why would terrorists of any ilk want to come to the USA from Canada anyway? I would think they would simply stay there and enjoy that lovely country's hospitality--and perhaps begin to see how happily everyone can live without violence and social disarray (the Separatist thing notwithstanding). Meanwhile, they can kick back and safely wait from there for the US to totally collapse from sheer incompetence and fiscal irresponsibilty. And those of our Canadian(ien) friends with a certain mind set can raise a mug o' the good stuff and shout, "Serves 'em right!"
