How To Get The Most From Your Makeup Brushes

A few years ago, I purchased an eyeshadow brush from a cosmetics counter. Initially, I walked away after my purchase thinking, "I can't believe I just spent that much money on an eyeshadow brush." But then I brought it home and found that it does a much better job and made my life a lot easier than those little applicators that come with the eyeshadow set.

I have come a long way since using those tiny little brushes that come with the eyeshadow package. Those applicators do the trick, but can wear out.

If you have been reading my blog for while now, you know that I am continuing to expand by beauty regime.

Cosmetic brushes can make the application process easier and smoother. To find out what all those brushes do and how they can help with putting on makeup, I spoke with Adi Lando, Sephora PRO Lead, Canada.

Adi shared with me his knowledge and tips on makeup brushes:

Who needs brushes to apply make up?

Everyone needs brushes to ensure consistent and precise application. Brushes play a big part in the end result of your makeup look.

What is the difference between a proper brush kit and the little brushes that you get with your cosmetics?

The brushes you get with your cosmetics are great for quick on-the-go application! Proper brushes would give you the ability to perfect your look and get the maximum out of your application. Also it's important to have a wide assortment of brushes so you can create different effects and amazing results.

Are certain brushes better for different skin types, or age groups?

Brushes are designed for anyone and everyone. Pro brushes have the largest artistry range and style with the highest quality bristles that you can find on the market.

What is the difference between the more expensive brushes and the lower cost brushes?

The price of a brush has to do with how the brush was made. Good quality brushes are like a piece of art and take a long time to make. More expensive brushes are shaped by hand, not by a machine, the bristles are tied and glued to the ferrule to ensure the brushes remain strong and do not fall apart.

The handle of the brush is dipped 9 times in lacquer so it will not chip. It's better to invest in good brushes that will last and give you better results.

How to care for your brushes?

Gently wash in warm water with a brush shampoo. Don't allow the water to pass the silver ferrule, let the brushes lay on their side to dry, not upright, to prevent the glue and wood from getting damaged, and in turn damaging the brush. NO DISH SOAP as it will dry out the bristles and the brush will start shedding.

How long do brushes last for?At what point should you get rid of your brushes and buy a new set?

Brushes should be taken care of like your own hair, if you treat them right they will last for a long time.

Tips for using different brushes.

Small firm brushes are great for applying product densely and saturating colour.

Larger, soft, fluffy brushes are ideal for blending and depositing minimal product.

Synthetic brushes are great for creams, liquids and gels as they have no pores and are great for those people with sensitivity to natural fibers.

Natural fibered brushes are perfect for powders as they tend to hold more product and blend beautifully. However, both types of bristles can be used for most products based on personal preference.

I am going to use these tips as I continue to expand by beauty regime.

Your suggestions are always welcome, as I continue on my journey to live life to the fullest. Let's have the very best 2015!
