Top Makeup Tips For Summer

I love the summer time. Pretty, light, fresh makeup. It feels so much easier to wake up and just put on a touch of tinted moisturizer, some gloss and a bit of mascara and go! The ease of it is fantastic. To find out all the latest makeup trends for summer and how to keep your skin looking fresh, I spoke with Lori Taylor Davis, Global Pro Lead Artist, Smashbox Cosmetics.

To find out all the latest makeup trends for summer and how to keep your skin looking fresh, I spoke with Lori Taylor Davis, Global Pro Lead Artist, Smashbox Cosmetics.

Lori shared all the top tips on how you can look amazing this summer:

What are the top make up trends for summer?

The top makeup trends for summer include colour correcting. What I love about colour correcting sticks is that they are easy to apply and very blendable by simply using your fingertips.

I would suggest starting off with one depending on your skin tone, to focus on brightening under the eyes. Peach brightens; it makes your eyes look more awake and alive.

Try using an eye brightener, they can contain caffeine and will help create gorgeous luminosity.

What are the hot colours this season?

Warm peachy, pink coral tones help create fresh and bright looking makeup during the summer.

What are the tips for application for these looks?

Pick a feature that you absolutely love and focus on that. Skin already has a tawny-ness to it, so I would focus on the cheeks. I love blush! Blush is the perfect product for this. Tone on tone, sculpt, pop and then highlight to make skin radiant for summer time. Use as a cheek colour mixing the two tones together, creating a sunset on your cheeks. It is a great way to create warmth on the face.

What not to do with your makeup in the summer?

During the summer months you need a lot less colour and a lot less make up.

If you are going to opt for using a bronzer, it should really be more matte in texture. You really want to create warmth for your complexion. Moving into the summer months, I love a bronzer to replace any type of setting powder.

You don't need powder, bronzer, blush, and more powder. If you tend to really love powder to set your makeup, take your bronzer instead and apply it with a loose bristle brush. It will help create a light dusting effect.

When you apply, it's almost like drawing the number three on your face. Start at forehead; go down to cheeks, then come down to chin and then back up the opposite side of the face. Next you can use a cream blush.

What I love about a cream formula is that it can be used on any type of cheek. The texture is really blendable and creates dewy, hydrated skin but you can also use it on your lips. This multi-tasking product is great during the summer months when you want to keep your beauty regime quick so you can get outdoors.

Any other tips?

Finish your eyes with a coat of mascara. A key tip to keeping your favourite mascara long wearing, is to prime your lashes with a lash primer. I love it because it makes any type of mascara perform better and helps mascara stay water-resistant, which is great during the warmer weather or if you are near a lake, pool or ocean.

You can also re-apply your lash primer on the existing mascara on your lashes, and it will help make them lush, makes the reapplication of mascara more pliable and helps condition lashes. Pop on your favourite lipstick or lip gloss and you are good to go!

I love these beauty tips for summer. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you have any beauty tips that are great for the hotter months, I'd love to hear from you!

Let's have the best summer ever!
