Hot Valentine's Day Style Tips And Trends

You can't go wrong with a new dress. Dresses are easier than they get credit for -- wear them solo, with a sweater, tights, booties, sandals -- you really can't go wrong. Bonus, it's easy to transition from day to night; just lose the jacket and add a heel.

To find out the hottest Valentine's style trends, I spoke with Amanda Kraemer, style director at LOFT. Amanda shared with me some of her top style tips for this Valentine's day.

What is on trend this Valentine's day?

I think it's really fun and trendy to actually embrace the colour of love. Go bold in a bright red crop pant or red printed paisley shirt dress. Not only will you make a positive statement amongst all the grey, but these items will pair well with your staples, making them the perfect pieces for transitioning through the season.

Which colours are on trend?

Red, shades of orange and navy are shown throughout our entire collection and couldn't look more fresh.

How to change up the look for Valentine's?

You can't go wrong with a new dress. Dresses are easier than they get credit for -- wear them solo, with a sweater, tights, booties, sandals -- you really can't go wrong. Bonus, it's easy to transition from day to night; just lose the jacket and add a heel.

If a subtle update is more your style, a new (or two) accessory is all you need!

What will be on trend for spring?

Anything but basic, now's the time to pick a third piece (jacket, anorak, sweater or cardigan) with personality. You're wearing one every day, might as well have some fun with it. I'm especially loving textured and fringed cardigan options. Bold stripes and India-inspired florals also look super new once again. My favourite way to wear them is all together -- mix and match, print on print.

What will be the key pieces for spring?

Anything that makes you feel like you're on vacay, even when you're not -- bright bottoms, floral printed dresses, a pale mint trench and pink skirts -- will keep you coming back for more all spring long.

Any other tips?

A crop pant will be your best friend -- perfect for the days when it's a (little) warmer and you want to show some (ankle) skin.

Lastly, fewer things achieve more chic and add colour with less effort than a vibrant scarf. With so many styles to try and so many ways to wear, you'll be wondering how you ever left home without one.

To find out the latest trends for accessories this season, I spoke with Diana Mazzuca, communications manager, Swarovski Canada. Diana shared the hottest trends for accessories.

What are the top trends for accessories this season?

One of the biggest trends is the stacking trend. You can wear several bangles together to create a whirl of colour or wear them individually to add a touch of sparkle to any outfit.

Which colours are popular?

Shimmering shades of gold and silver along with touches of black, grey and violet hue are the dominant colours for the season ahead. Mixed metals are also such a big trend. It's something that is becoming more prominent.

Are there any new looks out this season?

My preference this season is to go for a sophisticated style; pair a delicate necklace with rings on many fingers or midi rings (ring party). Worn for a day out in the city or an elegant evening out, the ring is easily adapted to suit any event.

How are people wearing accessories now?

This is an era of self-expression, everything is possible. Don't be afraid to mix your metals along within different types of jewellery -- for example a statement piece into your everyday look. Be yourself, and try to pick the right jewels and accessories to enhance your personality.

I am going to use these new style ideas for Valentine's.

Your suggestions are always welcome, as I continue on my journey to live life to the fullest. Let's have the very best Valentine's ever!
