Samantha Whiteside was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at age two and spent four years battling the disease before going into remission. At 16, she swam across Lake Ontario, raising more than $50,000 for The Arthritis Society and missing the women’s world record by a mere 71 seconds. In the years since, Samantha has been named one of Youth in Motion’s Top 20 Under 20 and represented Canada at the Beijing Olympic Youth Camp in 2008. Samantha is currently symptom-free and working towards a Masters degree in Microbiology and Immunology at Western University
