Originally from the U.K., Scott is an experienced nurse, midwife, Nurse Practitioner and health care leader, with a background in critical care nursing, public health and primary care. He has a Masters degree in Cultural Studies and throughout his 20 years of clinical practice, has focused on vulnerable and marginalized communities including the homeless, people with learning disabilities, mental health issues, people living with HIV/AIDS and indigenous peoples.

He is currently the Director of Urban Health & HIV/AIDS with Providence Health Care in Vancouver and Adjunct Professor of Nursing with the University of British Columbia. Scott is the President for the Canadian Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (CANAC) and a member of the Aboriginal Nurses Association of Canada.
