“Firstly you are grossly misinformed about your tax dollar. The government would have you believe that your money is going to all reserves in Canada...well if you know anything about the treaties you would know that the government has sitting in trust a huge amount of dollars that were generated from the resources on traditional lands, treaties where signed in good faith with both parties agreeing that any money garnered from such resources; a small portion would be held in trust to be then distributed among the nation of where the resources were extracted. The only people that profited from these treaties were the monarchy and the government. everyone has the right to know where their tax dollars are going but do you seriously think the government is going to let you know! they say that reserves should have more financial transparency, I agree but yet the government does not follow it's own precedence. before you lay blame do some historical research! and I am First nations and I do pay my taxes thank you!”

“I really can't see this happening as this would put the government in a hard place. if Canada recognizes Quebec as a sovereign country and it's people distinct then it would have to do the same for First Nations and in doing that then the government would then have no choice but to honour all the treaties it signed "in good faith" with First Nations. doing that would send the non indigenous population into panic mode. land ownership would be the biggest topic...so as I said, I really don't see it happening”

“seriously...you had to mention money! get educated on exactly where your tax dollars are going...how's this, any monies generated by resource extraction or development on traditional territories has gone into a trust fund for first nations. this trust was established with the signing of the treaties. since that time your government has been using this fund to disperse this amongst the first nations ex; education, housing, infrastructure. don't you just love the fact that the government does not make this knowledge known. the government is also spending a great deal of this money to fight first nations on the very treaties it signed "in good faith" with lawyers and such. your tax dollars are flying out your wallet to fund Harper's awesome "job action plan ads" there a lot more to list but I thought that this was a great example. and another quick tutorial we do work and we do pay taxes, we are only exempt if we live on the reserve and because you obviously don't know or maybe your just to smart...a good majority of us live in cities which means a good majority are employed = paying taxes. stick to the topic and reserve your moaning for the government!”

“seriously!! did you not read my comment? to reiterate I posted "SOME tribes and I stand by that statement. The "help Mother Earth" phrase is no more than a cliche for some of those tribes who do not practice what they preach. You do not have a clean environment when all you do is throw your trash out the back door which I have seen from the air on several occasions in northern Saskatchewan; very very few natives actually live off the land - yes some do as do many non-natives; As for gold in their back yard, that is not what the story is about, its about a pipeline being built in the general area of where they live. Why should they be entitled to anything more than what you or I are entitled to if we lived in the same area?

I spent a lot of time in and around numerous reserves in this country so I know what I am talking about - unlike you who likely has not spent any time away from your source of lattes etc.”

“the money in trust has been sitting there since the singing of the treaties...there are billions of dollars...which is more than enough to help out a lot of reserves to establish their own on reserve economies, education and healthcare. do you really believe that the trickle effect of funding that AANDC doles out is enough to help foster self sustainabilty...hell no! it's kind of hard to build these things from funding guidlines and mandates. our government is deliberately keeping us under their thumb because they don't want to give up the trust fund, nor have to deal on a peer to peer basis with First nations people, in doing that the government then would have to give up and acknolwledge that First nations people are a sovereign nation, completely independent of the goverment...which would kill a lot gas and oil exploration projects. and of course a say in how we govern ourselves. I still cannot believe in this day in age, I , a First Nations woman am still defined as an "indian" under the indian act. my people don't even identify with the term "indian" we are anishnawbe : meaning first...not some derogatory term given by a lost explorer who saw opportunity to exploit and decimate North Americas original inhabitants.”

“Many special interest groups and "tree huggers" are opposed to any resource development anywhere in the world. These groups, predominantly from major urban centers, bring much pressure and influence on politicians to do their bidding, and the re-election conscious rube usually bows to this pressure. As well, many Native groups today are opposed to resource development on treaty lands, and have effectively blocked literally thousands of jobs and millions in "resource extraction monies" in Ontario alone. To get to the point, when resource development is abolished, where will the money "in trust" come from ?”
