“bet we have less than 40 years of this horrendous practice left.
last year we had a proposal on the ballot here in oregon to stop gillnet fishing. the pushback from industry and fish shops was so hard it failed. i thought if we could do it anywhere, it'd be here in oregon, but no.”
“very cool move. i've noticed the disparity myself over my lifetime. but i'm one of the people who actually prefer a black animal. and every time i've gotten a new one someone has said 'what's your deal with the black theme? i would never adopt a black cat'.
the workers at the shelters see it and that's good enough data for me.”

“I did worry about the black cats during Halloween. I was afraid someone would try to hurt them, so I tried to keep them inside.
I totally have a preference for black cars. If it isn't black, I'm not buying it.”
“given we've already far exceeded population overshoot, i cringe to think we'd run it up to 9 billion before walking it back. and 2050 is going to look a great deal different than 2020, in terms of resources...”
“we're actually comprised of stardust, which i think is pretty cool.
everything on this planet is interconnected and has a relationship with the universe. you'd think that might be something to meet once a week to discuss, but no. people love those other stories because it makes them feel superior to so many others, both human and non human.”
“a worsening infertility rate would be a blessing. the number of people we're adding globally every year is insane for what's happening to the planet thanks to our presence.”
Mkelly534 on Nov 8, 2013 at 12:43:09
“From what I have read the fertility rate is falling around the western world and much of the globe. We are not producing enough children to maintain the population we have. It is supposed to peak about 2050 at about 9 billion then fall like a rock after that. Probably will fall faster if we have some global conflict or other disaster.”

“I couldn't agree more. That's why I told a friend a few years ago that I laugh every time I see some hand-wringing article about the low birth rate in Japan or Italy or wherever, and how it's going to be a 'disaster'. Economically, and especially as far as supporting the elderly, yes, it matters, but oh yeah, what about the fact that 7 billion of us are literally destroying the world, eh?”
“hoping for the very best of outcomes for you Eileen.
i am myself convinced that the transgenic garbage that this last couple of generations have been exposed to from the moment of birth is responsible for the massive increases in cancer, thyroid problems, food allergies and a host of other maladies.
i'm not interested in labeling the food so much as i am in seeing it destroyed and return to using conventional and heirloom seeds for our food.
just the pesticides along being used have to having a devastating impact on not just humans but all life forms.”

“Unfortunately, Monsanto has bought up and/or patented those heirloom seeds and they won't be an option in the future.”
“" Some studies show that these products are safe to eat and can actually cut down on the use of environmentally-harmful pesticides, while another group of scientists and activists believe that we don’t know enough about GMOs to call them safe for people OR the environment. "
BULL. WE KNOW PESTICIDE USE HAS INCREASED. WE KNOW.
“"we had the climate change rally back in the summer!"
ha. and what changed? nothing.”

“well, the corporate-managed consumerist status quo paused, ever-so-briefly, before resuming its headlong dash toward human civilization's inevitable self-annihilation. that's "post-modern progress" for you...”

“Global warming was redefined as "climate change". You know, like the illusive change in the weather.”
“my apologies. this young journalist, Abdulelah Haider Shaye, who had done reporting and work for The Washington Post, for ABC News, for Al Jazeera. He was a very, very well-known journalist in Yemen. he was investigating a bombing BY the US that for some reason Yemen was taking credit for...that happened on Dec 17, 2009. US military weaponry was found all over the site. Obama wanted that story squashed as the official version, by both Yemen and USA gov'ts was that Yemen did it. not true.”
