“Did you see the episode of Designing Women were the ladies were in a charity benefit, and were the Supremes?
They were debating about weather or not to use blackface. So Julia called a friend in the NAACP and asked if that would be advisable. She was told NO, it would not. Of Course, Suzanne didn't get the memo, and came out in blackface, much to the mortification of the others. The other part of the story was about Charlene's friend whom everyone envied, but Charlene found out her friends husband was an abuser, so the girls put their money together to help her out. It was a funny, yet very powerful episode. From that, I decided that I would be the kind of person who would help a struggling person with out hesitation. And the song they sang was "Ain't no mountain high enough".”

“I'm concerned. Colbert's satire on Comedy Central is an important part of public discourse. With traditional news media largely under corporate control and operating through entertainment divisions, having someone who could so effectively help us look at issues of the day through a satirical lens that exposed so much of the BS out there has become for better or worse an incredibly important part of our democracy. I hope that CBS allows him to retain this voice and that Comedy Central is able to maintain the high quality with a new host in his slot (John Oliver?). I would hate for Colbert to just become an interviewer of celebrity pluggers.”

We were getting mere lip service in the first year of the administration and the party as a whole was pretty pathetic with no real LGBT advocacy happening. It now seems bizarre that we were left out quite thoughtfully (how else to explain it really) but the Democratic party of 2009 wasn't always fighting for our real protections.”

Barbara Walters Heatedly Defends Woody Allen Against Dylan Farrow Allegations

Commented Feb 4, 2014 at 11:21:03 in Media

“Barbara should have stuck to the actual facts. The facts are that Allen was cleared of any wrong doing, the claims were found to be totally without evidence or merit when fully investigated by Connecticut authorities at the time. Soon Yi was never adopted by Allen and he never acted as her father. He never lived under the same roof as Soon Yi (Farrow and Allen maintained separate residences in NY during their relationship). Soon Yi was a legal adult when they began their relationship. I know we all want to have sympathy for someone who "may be" and abuse victim, but in this case it seems far more likely, and facts support it, that Farrow has spent 20 years poisoning the well of her children's memories. This happens all the time.”

dessoftruth on Feb 7, 2014 at 14:24:47

“You don't have a clue when Woody started his relationship with Soon Yi. You don't know that she was a legal adult. Exactly when were the nude photos in Woody's possession taken of Soon Yi? He wasn't cleared of any wrong doing. In fact the prosecutor openly said he thought he was guilty but he didn't have enough evidence to make it stick. He was reprimanded for making that statement. True Soon Yi wasn't adopted by Allen, nor did he and Mia live together but how old was she when he and Mia started dating. How often was he at her house. If you don't find that creepy - regardless of how old Soon Yi was when he acknowledges their relationship (17, I believe) then something is very wrong.”

Barbara Walters Heatedly Defends Woody Allen Against Dylan Farrow Allegations

Commented Feb 4, 2014 at 11:16:07 in Media

“Defense of him has nothing to do with his art, but with the fact that this claim was FULLY investigated by the appropriate authorities in Connecticut when Mia first made the claim. It was found to be without merit, there was no evidence to bring any charges against him. His relationship with Soon Yi Previn (Previn is her father) was certainly unusual but never crossed any legal barriers. Soon Yi was a legal adult when the relationship began, Allen had never lived under the same roof as Soon Yi, and he was not her adoptive father, her only father was Andre Previn.”

Brent Hickel on Feb 4, 2014 at 14:53:42

“He had a relationship with Mia for 12 years. In that time you are saying he was never at her house and never had contact with the 9 children in the house, 2 adopted by Mia and Woody and one their son. Mia broke up with him upon learning he was sleeping with Soon Yi. A 1992 article sheds some light on their relationship:

cindysnark on Feb 4, 2014 at 13:07:27

“People keep saying there was no evidence. What would be an example of evidence? That kind of a crime does not leave evidence. The authorities I don't think said the claim was "without merit." I think they said there was not enough evidence. Woody Allen's relationship with Soon Yi is irrelevant - altho I find it creepy.”

Brenda Kwang on Feb 4, 2014 at 12:05:03

“Sorry, Curtis, but your facts are wrong. Connecticut found probable cause for the investigation to move forward and Dylan's claims were not found to be in error when she told them as a child. It was her mother that stopped the investigation (for whatever her reasons).”

Imhotep40 on Feb 4, 2014 at 12:01:50

“I disagree, Woody's art is linked to Woody's deeds. His creativity is a reflection of the man and the sum of his experience. "The fact that this claim was FULLY investigated by the appropriate authorities . . . . " only bolsters that the accuser has nothing to gain from making the claim. The idea that the technicality of "legal barriers" weren't infringed doesn't absolve the moral barriers that were breached. Having a sexual relationship with the mother of Soon Yi, and not technically being on the same lease where they most assuredly consummated the relationship, where Soon Yi was domiciled, again doesn't speak to the moral and ethical boundaries that were crossed.”

“I still use my 132G iPod classic. I do not have to rely on spotty 3G or 4G signals or wifi to stream music. I have a huge library of music I've accumulated over the years and like access to it all the time. My most common practice is to simply put it on random play and let it run. Better than spotify, since it is really currated by me and not culled from songs I have no relationship to. Cloud streaming may one day be stable and reliable enough to truly work everywhere I go, in the meantime I treasure my iPod.”

BradHart on Jan 30, 2014 at 18:19:28

“You are most certainly not alone. I had been using my 80gb classic since the day it came out and after it started having problems from being dropped into the kitchen sink, I bought like four more when Target clearanced their stock. I still haven't opened them beyond checking to make sure they worked properly and have set them aside for the day my current one dies. It also isn't music for me when all is said and done. I listen to audio books probably 10 to 12 hours a day every day.”

“The problem with the concept of a "snub" is that it implies that something that was nominated was undeserving. I find it hilarious that there are as many "snubs" listed here in the Best Actor category as there are nomination slots. Can we all just admit is was a phenomenal year in film and good but not great films like "The Butler" were never going to make the cut, and that with an embarrassment of riches to pull from for acting nominations it was inevitable that many many really great performances were going to slip through the canyon wide crack of quality available this year.”

Paeng S del Rosario on Jan 16, 2014 at 15:59:00

“I share you sentiments. The author named 6 snubs when there are only five slots for the nomination. Same thing with best supporting actor -- 5 snubs. Does the author, then, think none of the 5 actors on those categories deserve the nomination? This, really, does not make sense.”
