“I did not say racial profiling - I said religious profiling - two very different animals. Read carefully what others say and don't let your responses be coloured by your own issues.
In my opinion this country should accept all immigrants without unsavoury records, rich and poor alike (today we only take the connected, overly educated and the rich). For 10 years they should have to live north of the 51st parallel - for you bleeding hearts that is 320 kilometers north of the border - not so far. Doctor, tradesman, teacher and labourer because they can build the cities and infrastructure they require for themselves instead of stretching existing structures. If in the 10 years they run afoul of the laws send them back where they came from - period - no lengthy recourse. After 10 years they become full fledged Canadian citizens because they worked for it and deserve it not because it given for getting here.
For you bleeding hearts you would actually be helping people who need it from countries where they have little or no hope today instead of facilitating the rich.”
mashallah on Sep 23, 2013 at 10:38:05
“I am not a bleeding heart and most of what you wrote up there I would agree with with a few improvements. People should not have criminal records for violent criminal behavior (some people get records overseas for being the wrong faith or for other political reasons and those are usually given political asylum) and be allowed to inflict themselves on a new country but no religion, or race has a monopoly on criminal behavior. You might refuse a few Arabs in favor of a few Russians and get mafia in the country.. would that be preferable? Each person should be checked very carefully not just some. Also requiring that newcomers go to the communities they are needed is a great idea as long as their talents are utilized and they are given the chance to be useful. Many of the immigration issues are caused by highly educated immigrants being given no chance of proving their skills and ending up delivering pizza or driving a taxi while their hard earned skills become obsolete over time. The immigration services need to be far more honest with the professionals they invite to come here and let them know that they better be able to weather years of struggle to reattain the level of profession that they enjoy in their own countries instead of leading them to believe it will be easy”

“"Perhaps the time for racial profiling has come." Copied and pasted directly from your comment.
Really? looks like you wrote racial to me.... Or maybe you expect people to read racial and know you mean religious.. I think it might be a good idea to actually read what you wrote before telling me that I read it wrong. But again, even so how does one know what religion a person follows by looking at them, if they are not dressed in cultural clothing they look like everyone else? Arabs and West Indians are several religions who dress similarly. You would have a hard time telling a Christian Arab from a Muslim Arab even if they were wearing cultural clothes.”
“Perhaps the time for racial profiling has come. Rather than being given the benefit of the doubt, you need to prove your intentions first. And all those who cry about "human rights" take a trip to some of these areas. Iraq, Mindanao, New York - look at the bodies and smell the blood.
These people are gutless cowards who hide behind a gutless religion - they murder each other indiscriminately as well as other religions. It is time to consider the abandonment of tolerance. I for one am fed up with these people all over the planet.”
mashallah on Sep 22, 2013 at 19:55:19
“by the way I didn't mean the Indians were new comers as it might have sounded, but when we were new here we sure managed to a good job of profiling them and nearly wiping them out.”
mashallah on Sep 22, 2013 at 19:53:30
“How would racial profiling help? Violently disenchanted human beings are every color and every race and every religion, cult or even with out a religion. Would racial profiling have prevented Oklahoma? the Swedish shootings? Anyone who uses violence in preference to dialogue is a gutless coward no matter where they come from, what color they are or which faith or philosophy they follow. The west is very good at profiling the newest arrivals. first the Indians, then the irish and catholics and polish were the ones to beat up on, then the Africans (blacks... add your preferred designation) or maybe they were before and after... Then the West indians now the arabs and muslims. I wonder who's next or if we will figure out how to just get along with people without judging them first or at least only holding them responsible for their own shortcomings instead of piling on crimes from overseas too.”

“The bullying stories are very sad. So many stories so much misery. The real problem, I think, is our society - aggressiveness is rewarded. We always reward the so called "top" - think about it. We encourage aggressive behaviours and reward them. Bullying is aggression going in the wrong direction. Until we change our views on what constitutes success I doubt we are going to get too far with eliminating this perverse part of human beings.
We need to make real change and not just talk about it.”
Liz Wilson 2 on Apr 11, 2013 at 15:16:43
“I tend to believe that aggression as a means to an end is almost always wrong. The problem is that we are being manipulated to believe that only wealth matters and getting what you want regardless of the means is ok. We need to start to restore the dignity of the individual which is constantly sacrificed on the alter of corporate interest.”

“Excellent point! In Canada you need to be certified to use toilet paper pretty much. As there are no jobs, if you are forced to extend your schooling through useless certs. the government stats can brag you are not unemployed. Plus you are supporting some pretty debatable "educational" institutions and will be happily in debt supporting the "too big to fail" Canadian Banks for some time. Canada the home of serial monopolies!”
Robert J French on Mar 30, 2013 at 23:22:28
“Oddly enough to teach in some career schools, you needn't hold any expertise in the subject but you require a teaching certification. It's bizarre and yes as conservative as I may be and punishing me for liking Harper, it does seem that the "great" Canadian economy during the last/current (depends on what you call a recovery) recession was not rated on it's performance, but rather against the US's. I hardly call it a good thing when your misery is just better than the next guy. Glad I lived here for the collapse, but is saw quite a few people no better off than people south of the border/”

“There is no competition in Canada. The government rips people off with taxes and fees and no service. The Canadian retailers simply follow the pattern. The fact of the matter is we just pay more here - the consumer has been trained to be like lemmings. When was the last time there was a consumer "revolt" over anything in Canada - never. We are simply getting what we are willing to put up with.”
daemoncan on Mar 31, 2013 at 19:44:33
“True. But take consolation in this. As a citizen in a democracy (plutocracy?) you only get one vote every four years and you are stuck with that particular group of crooks until the next time. As a consumer, you can vote with your wallet every day......”
Robert J French on Mar 28, 2013 at 15:50:15
“Living in Canada I see one big difference REGULATION, you can't get a job serving food without a certification practically. For real even the most menial jobs seem to need some form of government vetting which is a cost.”

“The official languages of Canada are English and French, like it or not. I welcome Chinese and all other immigrants. I do not have any objections to signs in their native languages so long as the same signage appears in English or French as well. Multiculturalism is one thing, but exclusion through self imposed segregation is quite something else. I am sorry but signs showing only non official languages do segregate. If you come to Canada you need to be prepared to adopt Canadian customs and rules. If not stay home.
Learn one of the official languages and become part of Canada, not your own separate island. Remember Canada is unique. EVERYONE here is an immigrant - there are no founding people here - everyone came from somewhere else - we are a mix of the best the world has to give. Let's keep it that way.”
TerriR on Mar 16, 2013 at 12:27:18
“i do not believe in the two language law. Canada was NEVER bilingual, it has ALWAYS been multilingual.”
klbrx on Mar 16, 2013 at 02:21:47
“In my opinion, the immigrants who do segregate tend not to attempt to learn English or French, or willingly adopt Canadian customs and rules which offends me greatly as a Canadian. For some reason, there seems to be a false sense of entitlement by certain cultures to not show any respect for the rules and customs of Canada.
Canadians are intelligent enough to know the difference between those who *attempt* to learn the language, customs and/or rules and those who think that they are entitled to immigrate to Canada and that it is their entitlement to get away with not having to learn or converse in our official languages and then hide behind their rude behaviours, and lack of overall courtesy on a day to day basis hiding behind their excuses that "it is their native custom" to behave offensively.
Any Canadian really would bend over backwards for those who show respect or show that they are even trying to converse in one of Canada's official languages. Unfortunately there are those immigrants who move here and through sheer laziness, poor attitude, sense of entitlement and disrespect do not even TRY.
I do think that the politicians should adopt language laws because Canadians have been tolerant enough of such disrespect. All immigrants are welcome in Canada but first and foremost MUST show respect to the citizenship that they adopt. Right now, there is flagrant disrespect in my opinion and I don't quite understand why they immigrated here to begin with.”

“The City of Vanocuver should back off its own greed ethics and actually help to reduce the price of new housing. The City both holds back the freeing up if land for new housing and charges usurious fees for doing so. But then how could it be the home fo the socially elite and the serving class and not be bothered by all those normal working people?”

2. The new money is trash
3. NO one in the Mint or any other government institution is going to admit any thing at all.

“Ever checked out a Dentist's income? Unless you are one of those rich Republicans, they haul in a lot more than the average small business. And no I am not insane. Oh and by the way since when have large corporations set the moral tone of America? Perhaps if there was more consequence for peoples actions they might think through their decisions before they flip off their fellow human beings because of their own shortcomings and then try to avoid any responsibilty. Legality and morality are sometimes far apart.”
“No problem with the decision except........10 years "faithful" employment - 1 month severance?!!?! What a cheap-ss! The woman deserves at least 18 months or more. Just love it...”

“They say snow in Vancouver is different - well if only for the fact that it often turns to ice under ones tires. Couple that with drivers who think the faster you spin your tires the quicker you will get to h-ll and the heat will get you moving. Instant disaster! But the other disturbing fact is the City of Vancouver salts the roads like a gourmet chef - there is never enough salt on the road to flavour a turkey and g-d forbid a little sand here and there. Guys lay the salt down, it ain't cold here and the torrential rains the next day will guarantee no rusty Toronto cars. But hen I guess we could not cry so loud if we could move....”

“Simple solution - STOP buying - everyone for a month -prices would drop like rocks. It is not only e-books, it is almost everything. A subsidized iPhone in US is 2 year contract - here it is 3 years - same purchase price. Airline flights - etc. etc. The Canadian consumer needs to stop accepting the BS being shovelled out by the retail industry and say NO.
We pay higher taxes, fees and retail prices and get 0 (zero) in return. Other countries have lower costs, equivalent health plans and better pensions for less. Wake up Canada. Time to dump the bureaucrats too.”

“If you really think Canda is recovering start checking your facts the GDP (total value of goods & services is recovering but it is only a number) It is not connected with jobs. Between automation and sale of commodities jobs just don't exist but the numbers sure look good if you just forget about people. And that is exactly what Harper and his band of bragging brigands has done. Truth is the middle class and poorer people are getting wiped out by showman politicians and world economies. At our present rate of decline one day you will wake up cold, hungry and freezing in the dark while your politicians live in 5 star hotels and sip $18 a glass orange juice. Whoops my mistake that has already happened...”

“If Vancouver was a real city it might have real transportaion. As it is it took governments almost 50 years to create the traffic mess. Cut both guys profit in half and tickets could be half the price. Of course fans could smarten up and say we are being ripped off and stop going to games”
