interesting background for the most prolific poster on this thread. Winnicki, you disgust me to my core and you do not represent me or the vast majority of decent Canadians who reject your far right racist agenda. Your ideology is beneath contempt.”

“Betcha he'd enjoy a good ole Pole joke right bout now? So, what's worse, telling an
offcolor pole joke or being one by support of the KKK?
Someone break the news to him, speak slow, he's Polish, that the KKK hate Slavic people with equality.”

The Rise of Religious "Nones" Indicates the End of Religion As We Know It

“Tom, with all due respect to you (but emphatically not to your beliefs), I was an evangelical for thirty years. Your beliefs are only supported by your subjective conclusion that a collection of old manuscripts are the word of god. I have wholeheartedly rejected that claim. Tom, d'you fear the hell of the muslim? or the hell of the hindu? If not, why not? When you can answer that question, you have the reason why I fear not the hell of your particular sect. There is no hell, there was no Adam, nor Eve, no fall, therefore no original sin, therefore no requirement for a saviour, no redemption, no life after death, no judgement, nor any hell. What makes me happy is living free form the dogmatic claims of all authoritarian religious sects, all doctrines, all scriptures. I am free to live this life, the only one I have, with compassion, open mindedness and without fearing that anything I do or have done is somehow displeasing to some particular deity who offers a devil's bargain of ridiculously high standards offset by pleading for forgiveness and living with guilt. chrisitianity offers a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Typical of religious beliefs the world over. It is intelligent to enjoy this earths pleasures rather than throwing them away for ancient promises of reward without any speck of evidence that said rewards have any basis in reality.”

“yes indeed. And more irrelevant, obsolete and less appealing to normal folk with an ounce of intelligence. In other words, religious groups (or as you prefer "Faith communities"), will resemble more and more what they actually are, cults.”

Tom Berndt on Mar 21, 2013 at 10:56:56

“If "intelligence" is finding and obtaining one's highest good, as many philosophers/logicians would say it is, than I would say people of faith in Jesus Christ, who by the way is alive and is the source of eternal life, are the ones with real intelligence.  You go after what makes you happy, but if that happiness leads you to reject Christian faith, and ultimately eternal suffering without God, I would call that ignorance.   But hey, we all choose our highest goods, temporary pleasures and rejection of God, or temporary sufferings with peace and joy and the promise of eternal joy in heaven.  Is it intelligence to choose temporary pleasures and reject eternal joy?  I say, no.  Faith is part of intelligence, you see? ”
